Bob Wolfley Speaks at MLK Luncheon

Posted on 01.21.10

Brother Bob Wolfley was honored to speak at this year’s Martin Luther King luncheon hosted by the University of Southern Indiana’s Multicultural Center. He believed it was one of the best speeches he have every given. Bob was praised by Linda Bennet (USI President) and Juan Williams for the excellent speech he gave.

Williams was the guest keynote speaker for USI’s annual Martin Luther King  Day Luncheon, which was held at 11 a..m. Monday in Carter Hall.

His career includes employment with The Washington Post, Newsweek, Fortune and the Atlantic Journal along with Ebony and New Republic. He is currently a senior correspondent for National Public Radio and a political analyst for Fox News.

Williams began by speaking about young people and how many don’t understand King despite his willingness to take risks. Some don’t see him as a defiant Civil Rights leader, Williams said.

“Then I think what a miracle it is we had a leader like Dr. King that didn’t use violence,” Williams said.

“This country has an ugly racial past, but we’re improving,” Williams said.

While Glenn said she enjoyed the luncheon, there were a few things she wished had been mentioned, like health care.

“No one can learn in school if they aren’t healthy,” Glenn said.

The luncheon included a meal along with performances by USI’s gospel choir Designed by Grace, Zion Missionary Baptist Church Praise Dancers, the Children’s Center for Dance Education and the Culver Glenwood Thump Squad for a price of $5 for USI members and $10 for all others.
