Phi Delta Theta began its football season with high potential this year with 10 returning players and only 2 new recurits. For the first time in years Phi Delta Theta football team compiled with only Phi Delt members and 2 pledges compared to many other greek teams that recruit outside the Fraternity. The game against TKE began primarily with a fight for field position with neither team scoring in the first half. The Phi Delts dominated the game by a friece defense led by the treacherous defensive line (Bob Wolfey & Jeremy Schnepper)
but also with the help of Spencer Charlton leading the half with 4 tackles. In halftime Drew Matthews lead the team with an inspiring speech preaching better offensive play for the second half. Quarterback Beau Parsons (Phikiea) who started for Washington High School ; led the team on a 45 yard drive for a touchdown pass to Colton Vincent. With 1:15 left in the game the TKE were held to a 4th down and decided not to defer to punt. TKE Nation 4th down conversion failed due to an incomplete pass deflected by DeWayne Esson but there was a controversial flag on the play  due to roughing the passer by Bob Wolfrey. This gave TKE Nation a First down with 45 seconds left to tie or win the game. On the next play TKE Nation threw a short pass down the middle of the field which was intercepted by  linebacker Nathan Steinacher to help seal the game. Beau Parsons once again led a drive down the field for 20 yards to top of the game with  a 15 yard touchdown pass to All-Pro wide reciever Drew Matthews t top off the win. Phi Delts next game is tonight October 21, 2009 at 10:20 against Greek rivals Lambda Chi Alpha.
